With only seven matches remaining in the 2025-26 season, Juventus, alongside Roma (in sixth) and Atalanta (in seventh), are engaged in a fierce competition for the final Champions League qualification spot in the top four.
Understanding Vlahovic's Absence in Juventus vs. Genoa
Vlahovic had recently made his return after a five-month spell on the sidelines due to a serious adductor injury. His anticipated comeback saw him play an 11-minute cameo in the 1-1 draw against Sassuolo prior to the international break, and he was subsequently named in the squad for the Genoa fixture on Easter Monday.
Despite being part of the squad, Vlahovic experienced discomfort in his calf during the warm-up. Consequently, the coaching staff made a precautionary decision not to risk him, keeping him out of the match.
Coincidentally, a calf injury was also the reason Juventus had to make a half-time change in goalkeepers. Michele Di Gregorio, previously out of favour, was brought on to replace Mattia Perin. Di Gregorio went on to play a pivotal role, notably making a crucial double-save from a penalty kick and executing several other significant stops throughout the second half.
