Scamacca Thrilled with First Italy Goal in Three Years
Gianluca Scamacca declared himself 'very happy' after scoring his first goal for Italy in three years, contributing to the team's 3-1 Nations League win against Turkiye.
The Italian team began slowly against Turkiye, who were at the bottom of Nations League Group A, requiring early saves from Gianluigi Donnarumma. However, Gianluca Scamacca broke the deadlock with a powerful volley that struck the underside of the crossbar.
This was Scamacca's first goal for Italy in three years, with his last coming in the 3-1 European Qualifier loss to England in October 2023 at Wembley Stadium.
Scamacca Ends Long Italy Scoring Drought
“I am very happy, but most importantly, happy for the result, as winning today was crucial,” Scamacca told RAI Sport.
Aral Simsir equalized for Turkiye, but Riccardo Calafiori and Pio Esposito secured the 3-1 victory for Italy.
“We knew it wouldn’t be easy, as Turkiye is a tough and aggressive team, but we played quite well,” the Atalanta striker added.
Scamacca faces significant competition for his position, having taken over from Pio Esposito upfront in the fourth game within eleven days.
“I focus on being ready when called upon, helping the Nazionale, and giving my all.”
The team now returns to Serie A and club football. Italy will reconvene for their final Group A matches against France on November 12 and Belgium on November 15.
Italy currently sits second in the Nations League group with seven points, one point ahead of Belgium and three behind group leaders France.
