Roberto Mancini's Contract Among 115 Charges Against Manchester City

Roberto Mancini, now the coach of Italy, faces scrutiny in the Manchester City scandal. Allegations of undeclared payments to him are among 115 potential violations of Premier League financial regulations.

An investigation, reported by The Athletic and BBC Sport, has concluded with Manchester City facing nearly all 115 charges.

Specifically, during Mancini's time as manager from 2009 to 2013, it's suggested he operated with two contracts. This arrangement allegedly allowed the club to circumvent Financial Fair Play rules.

The accusation is that Mancini received a standard contract payment of €1.69 million net, alongside an additional sum. This extra amount, totaling €2.03 million net, was reportedly disguised as a consultancy fee from Al Jazira, a club in Abu Dhabi owned by Sheikh Mansour. This consultancy was purportedly for minimal work, around four days annually.

City is accused of channeling these funds to Mancini's company, Italy International Services, through Al Jazira, who were then compensated by Abu Dhabi United Group.

Mancini led Manchester City to the Premier League title in 2012, following their FA Cup win in 2011.

The sheer volume of alleged financial breaches could lead to penalties beyond simple fines for Manchester City.

The club, which currently includes Gianluigi Donnarumma and is coached by Enzo Maresca, might face points deductions or even relegation. It is also uncertain if titles won during the period of these allegations will be revoked.

Manchester City is charged with 54 counts of failing to provide accurate financial information between 2009 and 2018. They also face 14 charges for not providing accurate player and management payment details, five charges related to non-compliance with UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules (2013-2018), seven charges for breaching Premier League profit and sustainability rules (2015-2018), and 35 charges for not cooperating with Premier League investigations (December 2018 - February 2023).

Manchester City has consistently denied any wrongdoing and plans to appeal any confirmed guilty verdicts.
